Are copies of tax returns required for FHA loan approval?

For FHA loan applicants that are self-employed, federal income tax returns (both individual returns and business returns) are required for the past two years, including all applicable schedules.

Commissioned individuals must provide individual federal income tax returns for the past two years.

The lender must obtain signed Forms IRS 4506, IRS 8821, or whatever form or electronic retrieval service is appropriate for obtaining tax returns directly from the IRS for any loan for which the borrower's tax returns are required.
